N.Z. League Team Lacks Hooker
(Rec. 10.20 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 3. The New Zealand League team will play the first test at Lefcds without a regular hooker. R. Ainsley, who was originally selected for the position is on the sick list with a skin rash which has not responded to treatment and G. Davidson, who was to fill his place, has withdrawn today on doctor’s orders, with an elbow injury. Davidson suffered a partial dislocation of the elbow in Wednesday’s match.
As a result the captain, Pat Smith, has decided to take the hooker’s position himself and oppose the redoubtable Joe Egan, who is considered by most critics to be the best hooker playing League today. With Johnson, Graham and Haig also on the injured list the team has now no safety margin and is considering the prospect of requesting urgent reinforcements from New Zealand.
