DEARER
BURIALS
I was really fed up and wanted to die Then I picked up the paper, oh my! oh my! The cost to be buried had so gone up It would take quite a fortune to bury
a pup. Nine quid for a plot that once cost
three Just filled me with dismay, But worse was to follow as I read on, A corpse must arrange the day. From Monday to Friday cost two pounds five Where it used to cost twenty-five bob. That’s- only preparing the grave my
friend And far from completing the job. But should you decide you are busy just then And must die at the end of the week You’ll be asked by the powers controlling these things To pay for the privilege you seek. If you will put on dog and die on
week-ends As you could once for twenty-five bob You’ll agree ’ere yGU go to pay more than three quid Or no-one will tackle the job. I'm now in a quandary as to what I shall do For my overdraft, that won’t allow. If I can’t die ’tween Monday and late Friday night I’ll have to keep living somehow. WALLIE HALES Kaitaia. Sept. 25, 1947. I suggest a new traffic route Iron) the borough to the northern suburbs and onwards for beyond the borough boundary. The BOROUGH suggestion is to TRAFFIC ROUTES continue .on the western side of the railway line from the end of Alexander Street passing between the rear of Rugby Park grandstand and onward northerly until reaching Manse Street, thence along Lupton Avenue to Kensington Avenue, where a short turn to the left would lead on that avenue, a chain or two, then a right turn to the street passing between the railway line, Park Avenue and the park racecourse, and so on to Kamo Road, which would be junctioned on the northern side of the rail crossing..thus avoiding any danger of buses colliding with railway traffic. The bus to Kamo could exit from the town on this new route and perhaps return to town on the present route. All buses running to northern districts beyond the borough could also use the new outlet, and enter the borough by the same route.—W. J. I DUNLOP.
