Lord Addison Lands At Auckland
(Special) AUCKLAND. This Day. Yesterday's weather caused the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Affairs (Lord Addison) and Lady Addison to pay an unexpected visit to Auckland.
The Hythc fiyingboat in which they were travelling from Sydney to Wellington was diverted to Auckland because of bad weather at Wellington. Lord and Lady Addison later flew to Wellington by Lodestar.
Food would be one of the questions discussed during his stay. Lord Addison said.
Britain wanted all the meat and dairy produce which it could be arranged for New Zealand to send.
CANBERRA TALKS EXCELLENT Lord Addison said results of the Commonwealth conference at Can# ben a had been excellent.
The presence of India and Pakistan representatives had made the sessions especially helpful.
Lord Addison, who is 78, was appointed Dominions Secretary in 1945. He was Britain’s first Minister of Health in 1919. having previously been Minister of Munitions in 191 G-17, and later Minister in charge of Reconstruction. ,
He was a professor of anatomy Irefore he entered politics as a Liberal in 1910.
He- joined the Labour Party'' in 1928 and was appointed Minister of Agriculture in 1930.
He was created a baron in 1937, made a viscount in 1945 and received the Knighthood of the Garter in the last New Year Honours.
