£BOOO Approved For Lime Works Sale

(Special) DARGAVILLE, This Day. Approval for the transfer of the Arapohue lime works from James Dobbs to the Northern Wairoa Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd., was given by the North Auckland Land Sales Court in Dargaville. The price was set at £BOOO, including £2OOO goodwill. A feature of the case was that the court did not value the plant or deposit of stone. The Crown valuation was for pastoral land only. Operating at full capacity the plant was capable of crushing 10,000 tons annually, it was stated. At this rate the limestone deposit would last 75 years. Output last year was 6000 tons, but without power cuts this figure could have been built up to 10,000 tons. The analysis showed 78 per cent lime. This low test was offset by the ease of crushing the softer stone and the speedier fertilising effect of its high rate of solubility. The deposits were estimated at 750,000 tons of stone.

A public accountant, Mr G. C. Allen, said he did not consider the re-open-ing of the Waikiekie works would have any effect on the sales at Arapohue, as lime works were all behind schedule with their orders.
