RADIOLOGIST FOR NORTH APPROVED
(Special) , KAIKOHE, This Day. ADVICE from the Health Department, Wellington, that no objection Would be raised to the appointment of a full-time radiologist on an approved salary basis was received by the Northland Hospital Boards’ Joint Specialist Committee, meeting at Kaikohe today.
The department added that it could not approve of engagement of part-time eye, ear, nose and throat, and orphopaedic specialists until suitable out-patient departments in which they could work were available.
The centre resolved, on the motion of Mr G. H. McKenzie (Bay of Islahds), seconded by Mr J. L. Hayes (Whaqgaroa), to empower the secretary to call for applications for a radiologist as soon as departmental approval of the proposed salary was received. The department will be asked for information regarding such salaries in other parts of the Dominion. Again on Mr McKenzie's motion, Mr G. Stallworthy (Kaipara) seconding, the committee resolved to renew its application to the department for a full-time orphopaedic surgeon.
It was stressed that these two specialists were Northland’s two most urgent needs. OPPOSE AMALGAMATION
The committee held some discussion on aspects of amalgamation* evidence to be presented to the Local Body Commission on October 22.
The meeting decided that, as the present set-up seemed to be the most suitable for the needs of the district, the executive, appointed to consist of Messrs J. A. S. Mac Kay, G. Stallworthy and McKenzie, be empowered to tender evidence along those lines.
