N.Z. Police Chief Hurt In Victoria

(Rec.l p.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. The New Zealand Commissioner of Police (Mr J. Cummings) and his wife were injured yesterday in a motor accident at Chiltern, 180 miles northeast of Melbourne, while en route by car from Sydney to Melbourne. Both were admitted to the Wangaratta Hospital.

Mr Cummings had been attending the conference of the Australian Police Commissioners in Brisbane and intended inspecting Victorian police methods before returning to New Zealand.

He was travelling in a Victorian police car when it hit a truck. No statement has been issued by the Victorian police. Inquiries this morning show that the commissioner had a comfortable night. His condition is satisfactory. Mrs Cummings has been X-rayed. She is suffering from a fractured skull and possibly other injuries.

KIDNAPPED.—The Allied military authorities at Trieste reported that Andrew Ursic, prominent anti-Communist leader, disappeared from his home in the AngloUnited States zone. It is believed that he was kidnapped and taken into Yugoslavcontrolled territory.
