Wanganella Steel Not Delivered Yet
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. It may now be a complete year from the time the liner Wanganella grounded on Barrett's Reef before the steel to restore her to seaworthiness reaches Wellington.
The suppliers of the material, Harland and Wolff, of Belfast, hope to’ ship the steel, amounting to some 500 tons, by the end of November, according to the latest advice. It is possible, however, owing to shipping difficulties, that the steel may not come to hand until, the end of January. It was on January 19 last that the liner was stranded. There will be no delay in beginning repairs on a highly-organised basis when the steel does come to hand and the work may be accomplished by the end of next May or June. Meanwhile, the Wanganella continues to lie alongside Clyde Quay, but under much reduced air compression to keep her afloat. A reduction has been effected by a gradual process of sealing up leaks in the fore decks and hold.
