Waikato Maori Claims
(P.A.) AUCKLAND. This Day. Some representatives of the Maori people hold the view that a grave injustice is being done to the Maoris by the Government “in forcing the Waikato Claims Settlement Bill upon the majority of the Waikato people concerned.” A meeting of chiefs at Pukekohe discussed the bill, when the hope whs expressed that the matter would be referred back to the people concerned for reconsideration of the compensation payment. It was felt that this would save unnecessary arguments on how the claim settlements were reached.
