Accommodation For Immigration Draft

(P.A.) WELLINGTON. This Day. The Labour Department is negotiating with the Army for camp accommodation to house the second party of assisted British immigrants who are due to arrive in October.

There has been no difficulty in finding accommodation for the first drafts, said an officer of the department yesterday. Most of the women had gone to mental hospitals and the few remaining had gone to public service hostels. Most of the men had gone to mining and sawmilling jobs, where accommodation was available. A few who had entered industries in the Wellington distinct had been quartered at the department’s workers’ camps at Hataitai Park and the Winter Show building until they could find private board.
