Youngest Of Four Thousand

(Special) AUCKLAND, This Day. As the first chords of .“Sympathy” wei’e heard in the Town Hall concert chamber yesterday morning and No. 10 in the Under 7 Operatic Dance appeared on the stage, mothers, teachers and others in the hall gasped in astonishment. To say that 2J-year-old Carole Sandham, of Balmoral, was “pint-sized” would be an under-statement. Of the 4400 contestants in the Auckland competitions, she is the youngest and yesterday morning she looked about three feet nothing of pale green ballet skirt and flaxen curls. Carole had been learning dancing for a term, said her teacher, Miss P. Marmont, back-stage. “I never have to prompt her and she always listens to her music. Frankly, I think she’s going _to be a genius. Smile for the reporter, Carole.” Carole bestowed a gracious beam. She lifted a corner of the pale green skirt. “Look—ballet pants,” she said, with another, prouder smile.
