State Orchestra To Play In Country P

(Special) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Minister ' of Broadcasting (Mr Jones), replying to a question asked by Dr A. M. Finlay (G—North Shore), stated that it would be inimical to musical circles in the other three centres to station the National Orchestra in Wellington permanently. Mr Jones said that pending the development of more players, small units of-the band could be stationed in the main centres after the close of the concert season.

Dr Finlay had asked if the orchestra could not train as a unit until the next season.

It is understood that the authorities are so pleased with the success of the first season that no effort will be spared to extend the scope of its activities to cover the country districts where suitable halls are available. During the season, which terminated witlythe performance in the Wellington Town Hall under the baton of Mr Warwick Braithwaite, 58,000 people, including 17,000 secondary school pupils, attended the 29 concerts given.
