Indonesian Settlement
(Rec. 1.15 p.m.) BATAVIA, July 8. The six-weeks’-old crisis over formation of a Federal Interim Government for Indonesia ended tonight. Official Dutch sources said the latest Republican concessions were acceptable to the Netherlands East Indies Government.
Under these concessions the Republic accepts all the Dutch proposals’ with the exception of a joint constabulary for maintenance of law and order in the Republic. However, it agrees to the formation of a joint federal directorate of internal security, that could use individual state constabularies.
Rights of foreigners in the states are recognised and restored unconditionally. •
Restitution is to be effected simultaneously with preparation of state inventories.
Government properties within the Republic are to be the property of the Republic. It is expected that a stai-t will be made almost immediately to set up a federal council, comprising representatives of the Netherlands, the Indonesian Republic, East Indonesia and Borneo.
The first talks will include economic rehabilitation of Java, Sumatra and Madura and demilitarisation of the perimeters.
