Match With N.Z. Maoris Souqht

The Whangarei Rugby Union is to • make representations to the NARU for a match between Northland and the New Zealand Maori team when [ the latter makes its New Zealand tour this season. ' > This was decided at the weekly management committee meeting last ’ evening. Eight teams have entered for the sixth-grade competition which opens • on Saturday. Two of these are Kamo and Hikurangi B. who have transferred from the fifth grade. The first round of the fifth-grade • competition concludes on Saturday and teams which were drawn to play these two sides will win by default. Mr Gordon Harnett was appointed selector of the fourth grade reps. The four selectors. Messrs M. McDonald (senior). E. Griffin (junior), G. Elliott (third grade) and G. Harnett (fourth grade) were appointed a subcommittee to bring down a report on the rules of the Northland Shield competitions with suggested amendments. This is being done in response to a request from the NARU. The Central Club's application for consideration of a proposal for the allocation of gate money on two Saturdays in the season as a subsidy for clubs to assist in the travelling expenses of players was considered but deemed impracticable. The matter is to be placed on the agenda of the special meeting to be held towards the end of the season. The holding of this meeting was de- ; cided upon at the last annual general assembly.
