Officially, Wife Of Fascist Is Welcome

(Received 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, June 16. A STATEMENT issued in official quarters in London about the coming visit to Britain of Madame Peron, wife of the President of Argentina, and about “articles which have appeared in a small number of newspapers in Britain,” points out that Madame Peron is the wife of the president of a country with which Britain had long ties and friendly relations.

“She. accordingly, is a most welcome visitor to Britain,” the statement says.

(2) Despite Britain's food shortages, Argentina has consistently demanded “pistol-point prices for meat that often proved of appalling quality.” (3) She will reach Britain soon after a triumphant reception in Spain, a country of oppression which the United Nations denounced. (4) The senora's favourite party trick is to produce ihe Fascist salute on the slightest pretext. .?, • Av-.-Aii

Reuters says Madame Peron is making a private, not a state visit.

The Sunday Pictorial yesterday published on its front page under the headline "President's Wife Isn’t Welcome," an article stating there were four reasons why Eva Peron, who is a former actress, is not welcome: (1) She is the wife of a Fascist.
