American Aim In Hungarian Crisis
Questioned

LONDON, June 16
It is reported that the police arrested Colonel Istvan Szemes at his home in Budapest, says the British United Press Budapest correspondent. Szemes headed the Hungarian military mission at the Paris treaty conference. The Minister of Justice (M. Istvan Ries) said his department was investigating possible charges against the former Premier (M. Nagy) and the former Speaker of the National Assembly (Father Bela Varga). M. Ries said that Hungary, if the big powers agreed, would willingly place before the United Nations all material concerning the roles M. Nagy and other Smallholder Party leaders played in the Hungarian crisis. “If the United States investigated the case here and learned the true facts they would expel M. Nagy immediately,” he said. “ROLE OF GERMANY”
"What is America aiming at? “Does she want to take over the role of Germany and cause another world catastrophe? “We Socialists are afraid the interests of capital are more important to the United States than the peace of its people.” The Moscow newspaper Pravda today accused Britain of interference in Hungary's domestic affairs, saying that the British Government had given Parliament a distorted picture of the Hungarian situation.
Pravda declared that the Soviet would resist the big powers’ interference in minor nations’ affairs.
