'Here We Are; Said Kenneth And Susan
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. SEVEN hours of finxious search by parties of police, residents of Thorndon and helpers from further afield for two small children reported missing from their home in Tinakori Road last night, ended in an anti-climax at 12.20 a.m. today.
The children, Kenneth Massey, aged six, and Susan Bell, aged seven, who are living in the same house, disappeared between 5 and 5.30 p.m
Darkness fell and no trace could be found of the children.
A oescription of the missing children was broadcast and passed to constables on patrol. A torchlight search of the scrub and bush on Tinakori Hills proved fruitless.
At 12.20 this morning Mrs Massey who had returned to the house worn out with worry, heard a faint tap on the back door. “Here we are,” said Kenneth and Susan, hand-in-hand, rubbing their eyes in the light and smiling happily. They explained that they had hidden in a big box in the backyard for fun, and had fallen asleep.
