Woferssder Charged With Manslaughter
(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. A waterside worker, Jack Mclntyre, was arrested at Lyttelton yesterday on a charge of the manslaughter of James Seddon Joyce, also' a watersider. Accused later appeared at a special sitting of the Magistrate's Court. He was remanded to a pear in Christchurch on June 17. A further remand will then be applied for if the police are not ready to proceed with the hearing of the charge and the inquest. The arrest followed five days of investigations at Lyttelton and New Brighton.
Joyce, aged 40, was found dead at his home at 9 Lonsdale Street, New Brighton, on May 28, and it was obvious that death had occurred a number of days before. The charge against Mclntyre was that on May 14 at Lyttelton he inflicted personal injuries on Joyce and that as a result of such injuries Joyce died at New. Brighton on or about May 17, and that by so doing he unlawfully killed Joyce and thereby committed the crime of manslaughter.
Mclntyre consented to the police application for a remand and was admitted to bail of £3OO and one surety of £3OO.
