(11.45 a.m.) CAPETOWN, April 18. Soon after church bells on Monday morning proclaim Princess Elizabeth’s 21st birthday the Royal Party and General Smuts will ascend Table Mountain. Then Princess Elizabeth will review an afternoon parade of troops, exservicemen and women and a youth rally and return to Government House for her broadcast to the Commonwealth. Then, as Capetown’s buildings light up and Table Mountain is floodlit, she will dine with the Governor General (Mr Van Zyl). ' After watching fireworks at Table Bay she will attend a civic ball to receive a golden birthday key and later a Government House ball, where General Smuts will present the South African people’s gift of 21 diameYds, which eventually will form a necklace. Three-year-old Mary Cppenheimer, grand-daughter of the chairman of de Beers (Sir Ernest Oppenheimer) presented Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret with a diamond each when they visited de Beers’ offices.
Princess Elizabeth’s was a six-carat blue-white brilliant, and Princess Margaret’s an emerald cut diamond.
