Australia To Take Over Norfolk Airport
(Rec. 11 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day A party of members of the RAAF, together ' with civil aviation officers, leaves this morning for Norfolk Island where arrangements with the RNZAF to take over the airport will be concluded.
Norfolk Island airport was built by the Allied Works Council, much of the construction being undertaken by the New South Wales Main Roads Department.
Work began in August, 1942, and was completed in June, 1943. At the recent Regional Air Navigation meeting in Melbourne, the air routes, aerodromes and ground aids committee recommended that Norfolk Island should be designated a mediumrange airport.
