Expulsion Of Huff Member
BOXING
fP.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A special meeting of the executive of the Hutt Valley Boxing Association at Petone last night passed a resolution to expel Mr W. M. Brosnan, a member of the executive, from the association. Earlier in the meeting Mr Brosnan’s solicitor, Mr E. F. Rothwell, told the. executive that any such decision would be challenged in court. Mr Brosnan and his solicitor had left the meeting before the resolution was passed. Mr Brosnan was called before the meeting to show cause why he should not be expelled from the association.
Mr Rothwell, at the opening of the > meeting, stated that, upon the basis of certain facts which he preferred at that stage not to disclose, he had come to the conclusion that the meeting was not properly constituted; ,in fact, it appeared probable that the committee was also improperly constituted and accordingly was unable to exercise any powers of expulsion or any other powers.
Further, counsel continued, no specific charges had been made against Mr Brosnan, who was entitled to know what he had to meet and should not be required to speculate as to the exac;t nature of the charge brought against him.
For these reasons Mr Rothwell contended that the meeting was not competent to expel his client from membership and that any decision to that end the meeting might purport to make would be challenged in the appropriate court.
