American Beef, Grain For Britain

(2.20 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Mar. 5. After a final conference with the British Food Minister (Mr Strachey) the Secretary of Agriculture (Mr Anderson) said an agreement had been reached to send substantial quantities of beef to Britain to obviate a ration cut there. Furthermore, assistance would be given to Britain in building up a reserve stockpile of wheat and other foods from this year’s harvest to present shortages developing next winter. Mr Anderson said beef and veal would be sent to Britain by the spring, also some surplus turkeys which the Agricultural Department was acquiring to prevent the price, falling in America.

Tire grain supply to England would begin early this year and proceed at the rate of 100,000 tons monthly.
