North NSW Strike Plan
(Rec. 11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. A general strike in all industries in northern New South Wales will be urged by the Miners’ Federation in Newcastle if the dispute in the meal industry is not settled on the basis of pre-stoppage retail prices.
The northern miners’ board of management has decided to seek a conference of all union officials on Wednesday to discuss the proposal.
Members of the board said that many big lodges had urged that the board take strong action 'o bring about a satisfactory settlement of the meat dispute.
Retail butchers in Newcastle are continuing the stoppage on the grounds that the increase in wholesale and retail prices of meat authorised by the Government will not eliminate the black market operator. Plans for a settlement have been drawn up, but cannot be submitted to Newcastle butchers before next week.
A Brisbane report says that wholesale and retail butchers there have declared themselves against a rise in prices.
