Myrdered While Prisoner Of War
' (Spec.) NEW PLYMOUTH. This Day. Private Alfred Hector Peterson, of New Plymouth, was murdered while a prisoner of war. His mother. Mrs F. M. Peterson, has received this advice from Army Headquarters. One of the two culprits has been tried and punished. This man was traced by a Military Court in the Central Mediterranean area between September 26 and October 3. 19*16. and found guilty and sentenced to 17 years’ imprisonment. The second accused had not yet been apprehended, but efforts were being made to trace him and, bring ) urn to trial.
Private Peterson was listed as a prisoner of war in Crete in 1941.
A casualty list reports the death while a prisoner of war of Private T. W. W. Pendray, son of Mr T. J. Pendray, of Takapuna. He was previously reported missing.
