Australian Trade Commissioner In N.Z.
(P.A.) WELLINGTON', ‘This Day. The office of the Australian High 'Commissioner in Wellington, has no information of the appointment of Major-General J. J. Murray, D.S.O. and bar, M.. C.. as Australian Trade Commissioner in New Zealand, but the office pointed out that the appointment would be made by the Department of Industries and Commerce, not the External Affairs Department. Major-General Murray was born in in 1892 and joined the 33rd Infantry Regiment in 1912. He was promoted to major during the First World War, lieutenant-colonel in 1924 and commanded the 56th and 53rd Battalions CASC.
| He commanded the 20th Infantry i Brigade in 1939 and served with the ! 9th Division at Tobruk, receiving the DSO. He was promoted to majorgeneral and commanded the 10th and j then the 4th Infantry Divisions.
