Motor Tyres Will Not Be Plentiful
Motor-car tyres v/ould not be so plentiful as had been expected last year, said Mr. H. C. Chapman, who arrived in the Dominion Monarch to assume the post of sales director of Dunlop (N.Z.) Ltd, While the rubber shortage had eased, the enhanced demand had created a definite shortage of tyce cord,, both cotton and rayon, and there was also a serious labour shortage in the Dublin spuming section of the heavy cord industry, he said. Mr. Chapman was on loan to the Ministry of Production during the war to make a survey of tyre production in the British Commonwealth and furnished the British Government with a complete survey of both military and civilian requirements for tyres on a wartime basis. . .. He said the erection of his* - company’s new factory at Upper Hutt had begun and the factory would employ about 500 workers at full capacity.
