New Canadian Ambassador To China
(Rec. 11.30 a.m.) OTTAWA, Nov. 7. Mr MacKenzic King announced that the former Canadian representative at Canberra (Justice T. Davis) had been appointed Ambassador to China. Canada, at an early Commonwealth meeting, would ask delegates to consider changing the name high commissioner to some other designation that would eliminate current misconception on the status of high commissioners compared with ambassadors and ministers.
Justice Davis’ post in China relatively was not higher or lower than his Canberra post. Mr MacKenzic King also announced changes in Canada’s representation at Washington, where the External Affairs Department staff officer (Mr Thomas Stone) has been appointed Minister.
He added that high commissioners would be appointed to Australia and India later.
