Deliveries Of Goods To Houses
(P.A.) INVERCARGILL, This Day. One of he main causes of the absence of household deliveries is the lack of sufficient light commercial vehicles. .
This opinion was expressed by the Leader of the National Party (Mr Holland) last night. , “For six years very few vehicles have been imported, with the result that many which have gone off the road had not been replaced,” he said. “I understand supplies of suitable vehicles are available in excess of licences which have been issued to import.
“This question of household deliveries is.a burning one. It is essential that sufficient vehicles • should be made available if New Zealand's women are to revert to “their proper sphere, instead of being the nation's packhorses." Marked scenes of enthusiasm greeted Mr Holland when he took the platform at the Civic Theatre.
Hundreds were unable to gain admission, and an overflow meeting was held in an adjoining hall. Mr Holland was frequently applauded. A unanimous vote of thanks was carried.
