Go-Slow Policy Ira City Quarries ?

(Special.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Stop-work meetings will be held in quarries in the Auckland district to protest against the action of employers in lodging objection to the new building and allied trades labourers’ award with the Arbitration Court. Workers will consider the adoption of go-slow tactics. If these are unsuccessful they are likely to call on all building trades labourers for support. It was believed that an early announcement of the new award could be expected, but advice now received by the secretary of the Auckland Labourers’ Union (Mr T. Potter) from the secretary of the New Zealand General Labourers' Federation is that objection to the award has been made on behalf of the Auckland Employers’ Association and district quarry owners and ironmasters.

“What we feel strongly about is that objection has come at this late date after the employers' and workers' assessors had reached complete agreement and finalised all but technical details in connection with the award.” said Mr Potter. NO MOOD FOR DELAY “The union is in no mood for further undue delay and accordingly officials will be visiting, as a start, all Auckland quarries and stop-work meetings will be held to consider a resolution passed at the last meeting of the union that an immediate goslow policy be observed in the event of any sections of employers dishonouring the undertakings given on their behalf by the assessors at the conciliation proceedings.” “I hope the whole matter will be settled in the immediate future.” commented the secretary of the Auckland Master Builders’ Association (Mr H. M. Clark).
