Whangarei Hens In NZ Egg-Laying Tests
Five Whangarei poultry breeders arc represented in the New Zealand heavy 'breeds egg-laying test being held at papanui, Christchurch. The test extends over 48 weeks and is now in its 30th \veek.
At the end of the 28th week, local birds had produced as follows: — Australorps: T. Weaver (No, 1), 96; (No. 2). 92; R. Jensen, (No. 2) 105; (No. 3) 87. The best performance was IG3. There are G 3 hens taking part.
Langshans: W. Scally, (No. 1), 8G; (No. 2), 13G. Best of 12 competitors. 173.
Black Orpingtons: R. Timewell, (No. 2), 110. Best in four entries, 142. Barred Rocks: H. M. Morgan, (No. 1). 60; (No. 2), 70; W. Scally (No. 1), 95. Best in 34, 179. Rhode Island Reds: W. Scally. (No. 1). 95. Best in 34, 163.
MR HORN AT HASTINGS
Mr J. D. Horn, of Whangarei, represented Northland breeders at the annual meeting of the North Island Poultry. Pigeon and Canary Association held at Hastings on Saturday. The headquarters of the association have been shifted from Palmerston North to Hastings for the next 12 months. The New Zealand Poultry Board's Cup for the best utility White Leghorn is to be competed for at the next Waikato Winter Show at Hamilton.
