Complaint 1 About Horses At Park
Erection of loose boxes for horses at Kensington Park was criticised in a letter to 1 the Whangarei Borough Council last night. Writing on behalf of immediate neighbours, Mr S. Oldcorn expressed perturbation and entered a strong protest against what appeared to them to be high-handed action on behalf of the Whangarei Racing Club in the erection of loose boxes in the cattle pavilion. They did not look forward to the inevitable crop of flies while a nuisance ■was created by persons attending the horses.
The borough inspector (Mr J. H. Ashton) reported that he had investigated the complaint and had found no nuisance to exist.
As president of the Whangarei A. and P. Society, said Cr H. W. James, he had given permission for the cattle pavilion to be used to accommodate extra horses, which he had been assured would be housed there for the shortest possible period. He considered that horses created no greater nuisance than cattle which would be housed there during the show period. The pavilion had been erected before the houses and residents had no cause for complaint. The report was adopted.
