No Surrender Of Preferences
(Rec. 11 a.m.) LONDON, Nov. 5. Mr Attlee's statement in the House of Commons that there was no question of unilateral surrender of Imperial Preference remains the Government’s policy. The President of flic Board of Trade (Sir Stafford Cripps) stated this in a fetter to the National Union of Manufacturers.
The value of preferences to Britain was not underrated, said Sir Stafford. The Government believed some general settlement must be sought, and, as set out in the joint statement appended to the American proposals, the Government was in full agreement on all important points in these proposal*, and accepted them as a basis for international discussion.
