Travelled World At Others ' Expense
(Rec. 2.30.) MELBOURNE, This Day. A youth of 19 told detectives who arrested him for possessing an unlicensed Japanese revolver that he had travelled the world at the expense of several governments. He was wearing a United States military uniform and an Australian war correspondent's badge. The youth said that late last year Army Public Relations accredited him as a war correspondent for English and Canadian aviation journals. Service aircraft then flew him to Morotai, Labuan, Singapore, Darwin and back to Melbourne. Last February he flew to Hongkong, travelled by Royal Navy cruiser to Shanghai and stayed there as the guest of the Australian Legation and was honorary attache to the Australian Minister. After buying an American uniform, he visited Chungking and Tokio and returned to Australia. Later he went by Royal Navy ships to Colombo and England, returning by BCAC airliner in a seat specially reserved by the public relations officer of the RAF.
