This latest manifestation of armed crime in Sydney occurred alter the storekeeper had refused the men cigarettes and tobacco. They then followed him into the storeroom, produced pistols and took his wallet.
Police patrol cars were quickly put on the alert and just after midnight they intercepted the car and took six people into custody. The two men were charged with committing armed robbery and the others with having illegally used a motor car.
Following two recent instances of the failure of police arms at critical moments, the police are checking up on their own weapons and ammunition.
Investigations so far have disclosed that some of the official revolver ammunition was issued at least 18 years ago. Many pistols have not been fired for years.
