Supports Abolition Of Upper House
(Special.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Dr A. M. Finlay, Labour candidate for North Shore, supports Mrs J. H. Ross, Opposition M.P. for Hamilton, in her view that the Legislative Council should be abolished.
In an address last night, Dr Finlay expressed his views when answering a member of the audience who asked him what he thought of the appointment to the council of Mr J. T. Paul and Mr P. J. O’Regan. These men were as suitable as any, said Dr Finlay, but he joined with Mrs Ross in her statement that the Upper House at present was an unnecessary body. Dr Finlay said the Legislative Council would be a more useful body if it was constituted to represent the trades of the country, with the majority of its members workers.
