Soil Conservation

(P A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Steps are being taken to set up a separate soil conservation division cf the Public Works Department, to be attached to the Minitsry of Works. It will be controlled by a director and will work under the direction of the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Council. This was announced by the Minister of Works (Mr Semple). He added that the time had arrived when a more representative council should be established. Mr W. L. Newnham, former engin-eer-in-chief of the Public Works Department, also former chairman of the Soil Conservation and Rivers .Control Council, will be chairman of the new division.
