Infected Talcum Not Imported By State
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The tetanus-infected talcum powder which recently caused the deaths of a number of babies was imported by private firms in the normal way and the Ministry of Supply did not arrange for the purchase, shipment or distribution of the powder, said the Minister of Supply (Mr Sullivan), answering an urgent question by Mr J. Thorn <G— Thames) in the House of Representatives yesterday. Mr Them had asked whether tin.' Minister’s attention had been drawn to a statement reported to have been made by Mrs W. J. Poison in Thames, in which the allegation was made that the infected talcum powder had been imported through the Ministry of Supply.
A newspaper had reported Mrs Poison as adding: “This is a frightful example of state control. A private firm would be exposed.”
