Heads Road Open

The Whangarei Heads Road, closed yesterday by a major slip near Urquhart's Bay wharf, was reopened today. Keeping close to the seawall the service bus and private vehicles negotiated this sector with difficulty this morning.

All Northland main highways are open today, the A.A. reports, but many of the secondary and private access roads are in a bad state of repair. Although no heavy rain has fallen in the past 24 hours and temperatures are much colder, much surface water still covers low-lying areas. The North railway line is completely clear, the small slip which came down at Opua yesterday having been removed.
