Making Country Life Popular At Herekino
To provide entertainment in an attempt to prevent the present drift of the rural population to the cities, a series of fortnightly dances has been launched at Herekino. The movement is being sponsored by a Herekino resident. Winifred Hunt, FAAD.. who very generously proposes to devote time to teaching tap and ballroom dancing. The dancing lessons are to be given free of charge, as it is hoped that the proceeds of the dances will cover the cost of studio equipment and incidental expenses. The first in the series proved most successful. A railway bus. packed with dancing enthusiasts, arrived from Kaitaia early in the evening. The Ahipara orchestra, decked in dark suits and white ties, provided strict tempo music of a high standard. Vocal items over the microphone, by local and visiting artists, were a feature of the evening.
