S.M. Comments On Stowaway's Arrest

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, This Day ‘•This is an extraordinary case. This man obviously is an undesirable and could easily have been dealt with in Australia, but we had to send a launch out all these miles. He is returned to Auckland and we still have him in New Zealand."

These remarks were made by Mr J. H. Luxford, S.M.. when hearing charges this morning against Lon Stewert, labourer, of Australia, who stowed away aboard the Karetu on March 25.

Evidence was given that when the vessel was two days out a launch was despatched and met the ship o(T Cape Kerikeri.

Stewert was sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment.
