Kensington Win Torchlight Final
BOWLS
Bowls by torch light! That was the story at the Whangarei bowling green on Saturday evening during the final of the one-day full rinks tournament conducted by the club.
It was a case of a fading light and six heads to win. By the time two ! ends had been completed it was im- ! possible to see the jack at the other ' end of the green and the skips were j struggling to identify the bowls at ! their feet to assure their teams as to who held the shot.
Then from the semi-darkness appeared a light. It was a torch brought by the lady of a nearby house. This gave the players a ray of hope, as it was focussed on the jack.
To the Kensington four. Donnelly. Wool ford. Bendy and Gough, it was the beacon that guided them to a successful return on the fourth and fifth sorties. They made four-point landings in each case and “flew” home seven Points in front of the Dargaville crew, Finlay son, Br.vdon. McKenzie and Morris. The final score was 10-3. The •star ol' the match was Bendy, who twice manoeuvred the jack into Kensington pockets. SIX FOURS QUALIFY Six teams qualified in the five rounds of sectional play, each sustaining one loss.
