Red Army On Way Out
(Rec. 12 noon) TEHERAN. Mar. 29. The Persian Ministry of the Interior announced that Russians have evacuated the entire Mazanderan Province from Firuzkuh to the Caspian Sea and from Bab al Milan to the border. The Red Army never maintained large garrisons in Mazanderan. Travellers from the province recently reported that roadblocks there were manned by armed civilians, wearing Tudeh (Left-Wing Party) arm-bands. EN ROUTE TO CASPIAN A. Persian staff officer announced that Persian forces had been ordered not to enter areas evacuated by the Russians until further notice. Gendarmerie made a reconnaissance three miles north of Karaj yesterday and went on a further six miles today. They found 15 Russians left in Karaj.
Meshed was almost evacuated. Three Persian barracks there still are occupied by Russian troops. Other reports state that a Russian withdrawal is continuing. Red Army forces from Mianeh and Zenjan are coming into Kazvin in trains on their way to Caspian ports.
