Weygand Charged As Collaborator

(Rec. 11 a.m.) PARIS. March 28. Alert and flcrv, despite ill-health, Marshal Weygand defended his action in signing the French-German armistice as Commander-in-Chicf of the French Artnv when he appeared before the commission of inquiry which is preparing his trial before the High Court on a charge of collaboration with the enemy. Weygand and cx-Premier Reynaud clashed when the armistice was discussed. M. Reynaud maintained that Weygand should merely have given cease-lire orders, and refused to negotiate.

Weygand asserted that the armistice resulted in the birth of the French North African Army, which subsequently fought for the Allies.
