Russia’s Absence From Bretton Woods Puzzles
WASHINGTON, January 2.
Senior Treasury and State Department officials are completely mystified as to why Russia has failed to avail herself of the right of original membership of the Bretton Woods plan and to co-operate in the international and economic field as she has done in the political field, says the "New York Times” correspondent. They feel that Russia might join later, but not for some time, if at all. Besides Russia, eight other nations, including New Zealand and Australia, who lost original-member status, may become members by applying when the fund and bank boards are organised.
