TEMPERATURES IN N.S.W. RANGE UP TO 108 DEGREES
SYDNEY, This Day. Ten people have died at Broken Hill—nine elderly persons and a baby from heat prostration caused by the heat wave. Also a nine-months-old baby died today at Hamilton Gates, near Broken Hill.
The flying doctor at Broken Hill set out cm a. dramatic race to try to save the child at Hamilton Gates, but engine trouble forced his plane down before he reached his t/estination.
After seven days of intense heat, >vith temperatures soaring beyond 100 degrees, Broken Hill’s two reservoirs have dried up and the city is new being supplied with water by train from Darling River. The temperature at Broken Hill today was 10G degrees.
Many people collapsed in other country towns, while in Sydney bush fires broke out in several outer suburbs. At one place five firemen were encircled by flames and narrowly escaped injury in a dash to safety. >
Temperatures in New South Wales today ranged up to 108 degrees.
