Organising British Pacific Air Service

(Rec. 1.0 p.m.) CANBERRA, This Day. The Federal . Cabinet has given authority for negotiations with the United States Government for a reciprocal air transport agreement and for invitations to the United Kingdom and the New Zealand Governments to join in organising a tripartite British Pacific air service.

It is understood that Australia, in negotiations with the United States, will maintain her pre-war position that any concessions given to the United States —on matters, for example, like terminal landing rights—will be conditional on the United States giving the British Commonwealth of Nations equivalent concessions in return. The Cabinet decided to invite the British and New Zealand Governments to join in forming a Pacific Air Commission, which would submit proposals for an interim British Commonwealth service, pending establishment of a permanent joint operating organisation.
