Future Of Waikato Mines

(Special) AUCKLAND, This Day The Mines Department had made a recommendation to the Government Concerning the future of the Waikato coal mines and an early decision was likely, stated the Controller of Mines (Mr/ C. K. Denney), yesterday. Hr. Bcnney presided at the monthly meeting of the Waikato Mines Control Board yesterday, and he later acid that the question of the future direction of the four collieries at present under State control was discussed. No indication was given by Mr. Denney whether the present control of the mines, which is due to terminate at the official end of the war, would be superseded by the State purchase a! the concerns. In the normal course, he said, the mines would revert to the control of the companies.
