Dairy Board Figures Said To Be incomplete

tP.A.) • WELLINGTON, This Day. Continuing the Budget debate in the House of Representatives today, the Minister for Agriculture (Hon. B. Roberts) dealt with dairy production. The Dairy Board’s figures, he said, represented only about 80 per cent, of actual production of butterfat. He had figures, taking into account the town milk supply, used by the actual producers both for themselves and for feeding calves, and these showed that the pre-war average per cow was 2371bs butterfat. The average for five years was 248. and this year it was calculated at 255. Opposition members were always complaining that primary production was at a standstill, but the sheep population had increased. The position regarding breeding cows lor beef production was good, and although dairy herds had declined during the war, they could be restored within a few years. Mr Roberts went on to discuss the percentage of primary products sent to the forces in the Pacific. He said he had been interested to learn from a colleague that timber used in containers for that purpose equal led 2000 houses.
