NAGASAKI TODAY IS VAST RUBBLE HEAP

(Rec. 11 a.m.) NEW YORK, Aug. 21 The Tokio newspaper “Mainichi” featured on its front page three pictures of the atomic bomb destruction of Nagasaki. One showed the . centre of the once-thriving city converted into vast destruction, with nothing except rubble as far as the eye could see. Another photograph showed a scene 10 miles away from the centre of the attack, where farmhouses were either crushed down or roofs rent asunder. The photographer said Nagasaki was now a dead city. All areas were razed and only a few buildings were left standing.
