Boxing. Dick Baker (Invercargill), 11.2%, defeated Fred Southee (Hutt Valley). 31.6, on points, in a professional middleweight boxing contest over 12 three-minute rounds in the Dunedin Town Hall before a crowd of about 2500. Southee fought strongly, but Baker’s superior boxing gained him the decision by a narrow margin Southee floored Baker for the count of four in the tenth. A right put Baker down for nine in the 11th round, but the Invercargill man came back strongly, and his finishing effort assured him of the decision. Stride Off.—A large meeting of timber workers was held in Greymouth yesterday morning and decided to accept the terms of .settlement of the strike as arranged between the acting-Minister of Labour, Mr. O'Brien, union representatives and the employers.
