World Peace Depends On Indian Settlement
(Rec. 11 a.m.) NEW DELHI, Aug. 20. Not only the well-being of 400.000,000 people, but the peace of the whole world, depends on the question of Indian political and economic freedom, said the President of Congress (Dr. Azad), in a statement. The establishment of political, democratic and Government co-operation with other free countries is the only means of settling the Indian question. The solution now has to be final and permanent.
Dealing with the Moslem problem, Dr. Azad said Congress had recognised the right cf any area to selfdetermination. It had agreed that federated units should have the greatest freedom where it did not conflict with the common good. Congress had gone to the farthest limit in recognising the right of selfdetermination. He added that he was convinced that the division of India was impractical and opposed to the ultimate interests of the Moslems themselves. The two parties should work together for India’s freedom.
